In this presentation, Julie Goucher will deliver an overview of what a One-Name Study is and why one is of benefit to family historians. We delve into the history of surnames in general, types of surnames and any differences in relation to non-British surnames.

We also explore considerations of why some surnames may change, overtime as well as variations and deviations.

 

About the speaker:  Julie Goucher has been researching her family history since the late 1980's and has an interest in Italian ancestry. She is a well-known speaker, presenting both live and electronically, also writing for a number of genealogical magazines.

Julie is conducting One-Name studies for the surnames of Butcher and Orlando; and an administrator for several DNA projects.

She is the tutor for all the One-Name Studies course run by Pharos Tutors, is a Trustee for the Guild of One-Name Studies and has lectured for our own society as well as serving as an expert at our family history shows.
