The Postal Museum and Mail Rail: A Resource for Family History

Chris Taft, Head of Collections at The Postal Museum, joins us to introduce the Museum, based in London, and Mail Rail.

Mail services in Britain have been operating since the 1500s, in one form or another, and Chris includes a brief history to set the scene. He then introduces Mail Rail, an incredible narrow gauge, driverless underground railway built, in the early 20th century, to move the post around the London sorting offices.

Chris also explains how you can use the records held at The Postal Museum to research your family history.

About the speaker: Chris Taft is Head of Collections at The Postal Museum and has 25 years’ experience in the museum sector. Chris is a historian and has researched widely around the history of Mail Rail.
