Researching Family and Local History in Cheshire

Brett Langston introduces us to Cheshire Archives and Local Studies. We can't visit in person at the moment but Brett tells us about the records, documents and images it holds for family and local historians.

We can access many of the resources in their collection online, including some really unusual and surprising items.

About the speaker: Brett Langston has been the Research Consultant at the Cheshire Record Office since 2005, after having been a freelance researcher for some years. He has been researching family and local history for 35 years. He has published guides to Cheshire parish registers, and civil registration in England and Wales and also put together pages for the UK BMD and GENUKI websites. He was one of the founders of the Cheshire BMD website, which was the first in the country to put its local registrars’ indexes of births, marriages and deaths online. He appeared in an episode of the US version of 'Who Do You Think You Are?'  with American actress and singer Reba McEntire, which was filmed at the Cheshire Record Office.
