Carriers, Carters, Carmen & Cabbies

Drivers, of vans, buses, trains, taxis or huge trucks, are an essential part of our lives. But what about the precursors to the modern driver?

In this talk, Ian Waller gives us some insight into the working day, conditions and social backgrounds of our ancestors who were drivers and carried goods or people by wagon, carriage or tram.

For those who want to explore their ancestor drivers in more detail, Ian gives details of the records available in company archives, trade guilds, unions and related organisations.
