Lunchtime Chat: Your Ancestors and Local History

Description

Join Joe Saunders of the British Association of Local History in our virtual SoG common room to learn what local history is and why it is useful to family history research. We will then discuss the role BALH has in local history nationally and for individual researchers. Joe will share the range of resources available through BALH that are of interest to family historians including print and online publications, talks and skills webinars.

So grab a sandwich and a cup of tea and sit down with us.

Our lunchtime chats are friendly and relaxed. After Joe’s presentation, it’s your turn to talk. You can unmute yourself and feel free to ask questions about why local history is important when researching your family history.  Did you find an ancestor living in a completely different place than you expected? Do share your stories with us.

You can join small breakout groups to exchange ideas and also take part in joint discussions in the virtual common room.

A 90-minute educational social event with Joe Saunders (BALH), available to SoG Members only, free of charge but you must book your place.

About our guest: Joe Saunders is a familiar face as the host of BALH’s popular monthly webinar series Local History Hour, as well as being an active member of the outreach team and a trustee.

Away from BALH, Joe is working towards his PhD, while as a family historian, he undertakes genealogical research and is an Associate of the professional genealogy body AGRA.
