Walk: Brixton Market Heritage

Description

This walk must be pre-booked

Starting point:  Corner of Beehive Place and Brixton Station Road (near Brixton Underground station)

On exiting the station, turn right, walk to Atlantic Road, cross, go under the railway bridge and Brixton Station Road is immediately on the right. Beehive Place is 50m along on the left.

End Point:  Same as the start point.

Join in with the Brixton Society volunteer-led Heritage Walk round Brixton Market.  The tour shows how shopping grew from nothing to make Brixton South London’s biggest shopping centre by the 1920s.  The development of shopping was one of the key elements in the development of Brixton and a vital part of its history.   You will explore this development as you walk through the various markets and shopping areas.

Included in the walk is a copy of the book Brixton Markets – a heritage walk.
