Ancestry vs Findmypast

Ian Waller gives you a chance to think about these two family history sites and compare what they offer in terms of what you need for your family tree. These two large websites both contain genealogical data and compete commercially for datasets. They both have their advantages and disadvantages.

In this talk Ian looks at: the sites in-depth; the search techniques to get the best results; their errors and idiosyncrasies; and helps you consider the question of which to subscribe to.

About the speaker: Ian Waller is a retired professional genealogist with over thirty years experience in English research. He is a qualified adult education tutor and lectures widely on family history topics at both the beginner and advanced levels.

He is a Fellow of AGRA where he was a former Chairman/Council member, and also a Fellow of the Society of Genealogists. Ian is the author of several books, many which are published by the Society of Genealogists and available from our online bookshop.
